I recently bought an international kindle (DX) primarily for the newspaper subscriptions - i recently moved to South Africa from the UK where I read the FT and Times newspapers most days. I tried the Indie on the strength of the customer reviews alongside the FT. Although good, the FT kindle edition isn't as good as the broadsheet. maybe it's the lack of pictures, font or layout of the articles - maybe even the colour of the paper. The Indie on the other hand is superb. The articles grip my attention and the layout seems to suit the kindle version. i don't even miss the lack of pictures - when will Amazon provide the same content for international owners as for US? The Independent has become my standard newspaper subscription on Kindle. It is just what I was looking for: A paper giving thought-provoking impulses with a European and liberal point of view. It is practically impossible to get The Independent print version in Germany, so I am happy that the Kindle allows me to recieve it on a daily basis. I must say, that like the other reviewer, I found a daily subscription too much material for me and I'm happy to just get the Sunday paper for $3 a month versus the daily for $15 a month. I thought the cost of a monthly Kindle subscription was a bit much ($14.99). I did, of course, try the free two-week trial, and cancelled before I had to pay.

I discovered that the Sunday edition, the single copy of which costs 75 cents, is excellent, takes several hours to read, and is well worth the money. Sort of like the Sunday New York Times. Lots of features, reviews, etc.

Warning: do not try to buy the single copy Sunday edition too early on Sunday, or you may get the Saturday edition. I finally figured out that buying early Sunday evening is the most sure time (although once I did still get the Saturday paper).Get more detail about The Independent.
